RC Lens beat Arsenal in the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday (1-0), maintaining their 100% start to the competition.
Yohan Démont’s side beat Sevilla 1-0 a fortnight ago and enjoyed a similar success against Arsenal’s youth side. In front of 2000 fans at the François Blin d’Avio stadium, Ayanda Sishuba got the only goal of the encounter. He slotted home from the spot after he won the penalty himself thanks to a piercing run into the box. The Belgian sent Arsenal’s goalkeeper the wrong way with the finish.
Lens had further chances to extend their lead and may have done so if they had been more clinical on the break. Démont’s side were defensively solid, only conceding their first shot in the 83rd minute of the encounter. They are provisionally top of the table, ahead of tonight’s match between PSV and Sevilla.
Lens’ senior side face Arsenal in matchday two of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday evening.
