Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg can report that RB Leipzig and Xaver Schlager are in the midst of contract negotiations.
No breakthrough has been reached yet, but the Lower Saxony club are determined to extend the Austrian’s stay at the club.
The 27-year-old’s current deal runs until 2026 – Die Roten Bullen don’t want to enter the final year and risk losing him on a free transfer.
A decision between both parties is expected in the summer when the current season ends.
It has been a tough campaign for the midfielder thus far who has managed just 4 appearances after a cruciate ligament tear and persistent knee problems.
