Leicester City have rejected Newcastle United’s £40 million offer for England international James Maddison, according to reports.
The 25-year-old joined the Foxes in a £25m deal from Norwich City and quickly became an important member of the squad.
Since his arrival at the King Power Stadium, he has made 170 appearances across all competitions, scoring 45 goals and bagging 32 assists (stats from Transfermarkt).
According to the Telegraph, Newcastle made a huge £40m bid to secure the services of the English footballer but Leicester turned down the offer.
The Magpies are considering whether to make an improved bid in the upcoming days.
The Tyneside club have already signed Sven Botman, Matt Targett and Nick Pope, but Maddison is also reportedly a top priority for them this summer.
A Coup
Maddison is an attacking midfielder who can improve any team in the world. He is highly rated for his creativity as well as his finishing and crossing ability.
Leicester endured a disappointing 2021-22 season but Maddison was impressive with his performances.
He played 35 matches in the Premier League last season, scoring 12 goals and bagging eight assists. He also averaged 2.1 shots and 1.4 key passes per game in the English top-flight (as per WhoScored).
Newcastle will pull off a coup if they manage to sign Maddison. However, Leicester rejected their offer for the England international which shows that they are unwilling to sell one of their most prized assets.
