Leeds United could make a move for Chelsea and Albania striker Armando Broja this summer, according to Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports.
The Whites have been linked with a move for the 20-year-old throughout the summer, amongst a number of other Premier League sides.
What’s the latest on Leeds?
It has been an extremely busy summer at Elland Road during the transfer window, with the club having welcomed seven new additions to the club, whilst five senior players have permanently left the club, including the high profile departures of both Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha to Manchester City and Barcelona respectively.
Jesse Marsch will be desperate for Leeds to recruit another striker before the transfer window’s 1st September deadline, with Patrick Bamford currently being the only out-and-out senior option available to the club.
Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood are the club’s only other number nine’s available to play in that centre-forward role, whilst Rodrigo has generally been utilised in midfield.
However, with the former two both being only 20-years-old, Marsch may want a more senior back-up to Bamford this summer, so that the club don’t have to rely on the 28-year-old’s inconsistent injury record.
And Jacobs believes that Leeds are one of the clubs looking at signing Broja this summer.
What has Jacobs said about Broja?
He told GIVEMESPORT: “Everton are also circling around Broja and Leeds United I think will be in the mix as well.”
Will Leeds sign Broja?
West Ham United came very close to securing the signature of Broja for £30m this summer, but the club opted to sign Sassuolo and Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca instead.
The 14-time Albania international’s future at Stamford Bridge is currently up in the air, with Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel stating that last season’s successful loan at Southampton does not prove he’s good enough to play for the west London club, whilst his injury record does not help his cause to become Chelsea’s regular centre-forward.
However, with Chelsea’s potential signing of Barcelona and Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, there may be an opening for Broja to leave Tuchel’s side on loan again this season.
And Leeds would look to be the perfect side for the Slough-born striker, with the club needing to add to their centre-forward department.
Not only this, but the Albania international would be in genuine contention to start for Leeds, after last season’s successful nine-goal stint at Southampton proved that he can cope with the standard of Premier League football.
Therefore, Marsch would likely be absolutely delighted if the club could secure the signing of Broja, who has been described as “dangerous” by former boss Ralph Hasenhüttl, as the forward would likely add to the quality of the first-team, rather than simply just sitting on the bench at Elland Road.
