Leeds United have identified Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff as a potential transfer target ahead of the upcoming summer window, iNews journalist Mark Douglas has revealed.
The Whites are anticipating a busy summer after sealing Premier League promotion over a week ago and are reportedly eyeing four or five first-team reinforcements.
While profit and sustainability regulations limit their ability to spend in the market, Leeds are carefully evaluating their options and have earmarked Longstaff as an option for midfield.
The £50,000-a-week star could attract several suitors across the Premier League this summer, when he enters the final 12 months of his contract at St James’ Park.
Leeds Targeting Sean Longstaff Move
A busy summer transfer window looming
According to Douglas, Leeds’ owners and Farke appear to have differing approaches to their strategy for the upcoming summer market.
While the ownership wants to recruit potential signings using data, Farke is believed to favour ‘more battle-hardened’ players ahead of the club’s Premier League return.
Amid growing fears over tension between the two camps, Leeds have started to assess potential market options, and Longstaff seems to be an appealing one.
The ‘incredible’ English midfielder would bring considerable top-flight experience to Elland Road, having made 170 Premier League appearances during his six-year senior spell with the Magpies.
Leeds are believed to be considering Farke’s future following their promotion, with some senior Elland Road figures expressing doubts over the German’s ability to lead the Whites on their Premier League return.
Farke oversaw Norwich City’s relegation campaign in 2019/20 and was sacked before their second drop to the Championship in the 2021/22 season.
