Leeds Eyeing Move to Sign Mohamed Amoura as Jorgen Strand Larsen Alternative

Leeds United have had a relatively quiet January transfer window so far – and although they aren’t expected to complete a late move for Wolfsburg star Amoura, a move is certainly on the cards in the future.

Leeds have not had much transfer activity in recent days, only loaning winger Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton, whilst their only outgoings have been the loan deals taking youngster Harry Gray to Rotherham United, and Jack Harrison to Fiorentina.

They do have six points of breathing space in the Premier League relegation battle, and incomings would be welcome, though Amoura may still land at the club prior to the transfer deadline.

Report: Leeds ‘Interested’ in Algerian Star Amoura

Mohamed Amoura

The report by French journalist Nabil Djellit states that Leeds are ‘indeed’ interested in Amoura, as they look to do a potential deal before Monday’s 7pm deadline.

Their interest has been known for some time, with Daniel Farke keen to bolster his squad, though it’s thought that a deal has ‘very little chance’ of coming to fruition before the end of the transfer window.

Barring an almighty twist, the ‘dangerous’ Wolfsburg striker will remain at the Volkswagen Arena for the time being, though Leeds could register their interest over the summer transfer window.

Amoura, 25 years of age, took quite a while in his career to take off. Featuring for Algerian outfit ES Setif until 2021, he moved to Swiss side Lugano for two years, scoring 17 goals in 66 games before moving to Belgian superteam Union Saint-Gilloise.

Their analytical approach, being controlled by Brighton owner Tony Bloom, saw them come second with Amoura scoring 18 in the league, and that prompted a big move to Wolfsburg.

With 17 goals in just 48 Bundesliga games, the diminutive striker has been impressive in Germany, and it’s no wonder Leeds are interested in a potential move.

Amoura Signing Would Give Leeds a Real Survival Boost

Daniel Farke

Leeds already have Dominic Calvert-Lewin in their ranks ahead of a potential switch for Amoura, and if the Englishman can keep his form up, it would be tough for the Wolfsburg star to find his way into the side.

However, Lukas Nmecha – although an auxiliary player – has been vital for the Whites and could offer hope for Amoura, at least. The German star also came from Wolfsburg and with five goals this season, he’ll be hoping to reach double figures.

If Amoura can have a similar impact, it means Leeds will have three goal-happy strikers next season if they can keep them fit, which would be ideal for Farke.
