FC Union Berlin’s new head-coach and its squad captain were both able to convey some relief after their team finally won a match for the first time in over three months on Saturday.

A 3-1 home win over visiting Borussia Möchengladbach was, in the words of 1. FC Union Berlin’s newly appointed trainer Nenad Bjelica, a “practically perfect” way to celebrate his debut in the league. The 52-year-old trainer called for “more of the same” when conducting his post match interview with Sky Germany.
“I was proud of the whole team,” Bjelica said afterwards, “The team turned in a great performance. We were better than Gladbach in all respects: In possession, off the ball, and in transition. I haven’t been here for the last three months, but I can feel how difficult it was for the club, fans, and players it was to go three months without a win.”
Squad skipper Rani Khedira concurred.
“This was a fully deserved home win,” Khedira noted in his interview, “We brought everything onto the pitch that has made us so strong in recent years; the things that characterize Union Berlin. We were active, aggressive, unflinching in heading forward and looked for our chances. We can leave the pitch with a broadened chest.”
