Lamine Yamal became Spain’s youngest ever player on Friday evening when he replaced Dani Olmo in the 44th minute of La Roja’s Euro 2024 Group A qualifier against Georgia.
The teenager, who is just 16 years and 57 days old, breaks the record previously held by his Barcelona team-mate Gavi, who made his Spain debut at 17 years and 62 days old.
Spain lead 4-0 at the time of writing, scoring four times inside the opening 40 minutes of the game, as they cut Willy Sagnol’s men open on a wet evening in Tbilisi.
The first-half goals came from striker Álvaro Morata (2), an own goal from Georgia’s Solomon Kvirkvelia, and the in-form Dani Olmo.
In the same minute as the Lamine substitution, Athletic Club winger Nico Williams replaced Marco Asensio, who superbly set up Morata to break the deadlock.
