Lukas Kübler scored twice as Freiburg defeated Wolfsburg 3-2 at the Europa-Park Stadion on Friday night.
The right-back opened the scoring just before the break and added a second early in the second half, with both goals coming from close range following corner kicks.
Freiburg looked to have put the game out of Wolfsburg’s reach, when Michael Gregoritsch headed in Ritsu Doan’s cross just past the hour mark.
But Wolfsburg mounted a late comeback, with second-half substitutes Jonas Wind and Mattias Svanberg getting on the scoresheet for the visitors.
Ultimately, though, it wasn’t enough for Wolfsburg as Freiburg held on for the win after having a goal disallowed in stoppage time.
The three points move Julian Schuster’s side up to fifth in the table, three points clear of sixth-placed Wolfsburg.
