KSE now facing ‘big decision’ over £70m star at the Emirates

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will have to make a ‘big decision’ on Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Gunners are believed to have the highly-rated 21-year-old at the top of their wish list for January and could attempt to improve their attacking options with a move for him.

Arsenal transfer news – Mykhaylo Mudryk

David Ornstein of The Athletic has claimed that Mudryk is Arsenal’s ‘priority target’ for the winter window and that there is a ‘good chance’ the deal could be completed next month.

Shakhtar’s director of football Dario Srna has stated that the Ukraine international is valued at around €100 million (£86m) at this moment in time.

Srna outlined his belief that Mudryk ‘does not have less quality’ than Antony, Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish, who completed transfers for similar fees, and that Shakhtar will rightly demand the same reparations.

Mudryk’s contract is not due to expire until the summer of 2026, leaving his current employers in a strong position around the negotiating table.

What has Sheth said about Mudryk?

When asked by GiveMeSport on what plans Arsenal have for the January transfer window, Sheth stated that the link to Mudryk ‘simply just doesn’t go away’ but that he’s not about to come cheaply.

He said: “There’s the link with Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk that simply just doesn’t go away. But Shakhtar are under no pressure to sell.

“He’s got four years left on his contract and recently signed a new deal. They’d be able to charge upwards of 50, 60, £70 million for him. So, I think it’s a big decision for Arsenal to make in the January window.”

Do Arsenal need Mudryk?

Arsenal were unsuccessful in their attempts to sign Raphinha over the summer and opted against bringing in an alternative target, leaving Mikel Arteta short of options out wide.

And with star striker Gabriel Jesus sidelined after having surgery on a knee injury picked up during the World Cup with Brazil, the capital club may be prioritising reinforcements in the final third of the pitch this winter.

Mudryk appears to possess the quality required to make his mark at the Emirates Stadium having registered 10 goals and eight assists in 18 appearances across all competitions this season.

Spending upwards of £70m on a player who hasn’t played outside of the Ukrainian league may be viewed as a major gamble by the Arsenal hierarchy, though, and that is what they will surely be debating now.
