According to Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, FC Köln are looking at Joel Pohjanpalo from rivals Bayer Leverkusen to replace the outgoing Anthony Modeste.
It’s reported that Köln sporting director Christian Keller contacted the Bayer striker a few months ago regarding a possible move to the cathedral city.
The 27-year-old Finish international is open to move away from B04 should Köln wish to pursue him.
The forward has been surplus to requirements at Leverkusen and spent last season on loan at Turkish club Çaykur Rizespor.
The newspaper explains that Köln attempted to sign Pohjanpalo in May but were unable to meet B04’s demands of around €2.5m.
The Fin is entering the last 12 months of his contract meaning a transfer in the coming months is highly possible.
With Modeste (34) set to move to Borussia Dortmund for a fee of around €3m, Köln could have the appropriate fees to bring in Pohjanpalo.
