FC Köln are back in international waters for the first time in 5 years and they’ve just received the draw for their first match. Hungary’s Fehérvár FC will play Moldova’s FC Petrocub-Hincesti to see who face the Billy Goats. The first and second legs will take place on August 18th and 25th for Steffen Baumgart’s side.

After the draw Baumgart added that, “They are two interesting tasks that are challenging. Nevertheless, we feel that we can reach the group phase…and that should also be our goal. Now we have to wait and see which of the two teams progress.”

Last season, UEFA gave 2.8 million euros to each team who qualified for the group stage. After the penalty loss to Jahn Regensburg in the first round of the DFB-Pokal, Köln now only have 2 competitions to worry about. They are also hoping to hold onto Anthony Modeste, who is in the sights of Dortmund for a possible loan move.
