Miroslav Klose has revealed that he tried to sign Florian Wirtz during his time as Bayern Munich’s U17 coach.

Florian Wirtz has been linked with a long list of Europe’s top clubs since breaking through at Bayer 04 Leverkusen as a youngster.
Apparently, Bayern Munich tried to sign the now 20-year-old when he was still playing for the youth team of FC Köln.
That’s according to Miroslav Klose, who has revealed that he made an attempt to land the German prodigy when he was working as Bayern Munich’s U17 coach.
“I also tried to bring Florian Wirtz to Munich. As a young player, he single-handedly destroyed us in the U17 championship,” Klose told Kicker.
“With him and Jamal [Musiala], it was immediately clear that they were going to be on the big stage.”
Wirtz eventually decided to leave FC Köln for Leverkusen in January 2020. He made his debut for Die Werkself in May of that year and has gone on to make 120 appearances for the club, scoring 29 goals and providing 40 assists.
