Klopp ‘would love’ midfielder to join Gakpo at Anfield

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp would love to bring a new midfielder to Anfield next month, journalist Pete O’Rourke has told GiveMeSport.

The Reds recently announced the signing of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven, and O’Rourke thinks Klopp would be delighted if a No.6 or No.8 followed the Dutchman to Merseyside.

Gakpo has joined Liverpool in a £44.3m deal and has put pen to paper on a contract that runs until 2028, as reported by BBC Sport.

On his new signing, Klopp told the Reds’ official website and reporters: “The position he played most often is obviously the left wing, that’s clear. But he can play different positions. He played for Holland different positions, he played for Eindhoven different positions, so that’s all fine.

“He can play all four positions up front whatever you play. If you play 4-2-3-1, he can play all four positions. If you play 4-3-3, he can play the winger. In 4-4-2, he can play the wing and the striker position. So there’s so many things he can play.”

It will now be interesting to see if a midfielder or a player of another position joins Gakpo at Anfield next month.

What has Pete O’Rourke said about Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool?

O’Rourke thinks Klopp would add a fresh face to the engine room in the winter transfer window in an ideal world.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “I’m sure the Liverpool board will be thinking, ‘Can you hold on until the summer and save those funds for then and see if we can do those big deals?’

“But I’m sure, in an ideal world, Jurgen Klopp would love to bring in another midfielder before the window closes at the end of January.”

Will Liverpool sign a new midfielder next month?

It seems unlikely, largely because the names Liverpool are looking at are simply not on the market right now.

According to the MailOnline, the Reds are keen on Jude Bellingham but are not expected to sign him in the upcoming transfer window. Rather, the outlet states that Borussia Dortmund want the bidding war for the England international to take place next summer.

West Ham’s Declan Rice is another midfielder who Liverpool are thought to like, but David Moyes has made it clear that he will not be leaving the London Stadium before the season finishes.

Speaking about his captain’s future, the Hammers boss told talkSPORT and other outlets this week: “There will be no chance Declan Rice leaves in this window.”
