VfL Wolfsburg chief personnel executive Jörg Schamdtke has confirmed to Germany’s Kicker Magazine that Montpellier fullback Nicolas Cozza will join his new German club this January.

An apparent breakthrough in talks to conclude the transfer of French fullback Nicolas Cozza should see the 24-year-old suit up for Germany’s green company team in the coming days. Thomas Hiete of Germany’s preeminent footballing publication contacted VfL Wolfsburg CEO Jörg Schmadtke for comment regarding reports appearing in French media that the deal was done.
“We have reached an agreement,” Jörg Schmadtke told, “the transfer is about to be completed.”

According to Lieto, Cozza will come to Wolfsburg for an exceedingly modest transfer fee of just €500,000. The former French youth international maintains an estimated market worth of ten times that amount in the latest transfermarkt listings. Following the departure of Jerome Roussillon, die Wölfe find themself in desperate need of a back-up left-back.

Cozza will strengthen the Bundesliga’s second best defensive unit. Wolfsburg have conceded only 10 league goals this season. Only league-leaders FC Bayern München (with 14 goals conceded) have let in fewer. The VfL are set to take on Hertha this evening, likely with Micky van de Ven, Maxence Lacroix, and Sebastiaan Bornauw all surviving in the back-four.
