WWE Superstar Kevin Owens has provided fans with an update on his current condition, but it’s not going to be music to their ears as he’s revealed the reality of his neck injury.
‘The Prizefighter’ has not been seen on WWE television since April, when he had to pull out of a scheduled WrestleMania 41 match with Randy Orton.
During the recent interview where he discussed his fitness and current injury status, Owens also mentioned it was after a match against Rey Mysterio on the 17th of January edition of SmackDown that he first experienced symptoms of the neck injury.
What Kevin Owens Has Said About His Neck Injury
KO has been open and honest about the long road ahead
Speaking with le10sport, Owens gave an insight into his recovery: “It’s a very slow process. I still haven’t had the surgery. There’s a lot of things to consider before the surgery. We’re kind of waiting to see how things progress naturally. There’s no doubt I need surgery, but before we do the surgery, we just have to see how much it can… Not recover, because it won’t recover, but slightly improve without surgery.
“Afterward, we can make a plan and decide what’s the best thing to do for surgery. But it’s a very slow process. You just have to have patience. I don’t usually have a lot of patience, but this time I have no choice.”
How Kevin Owens Injured His Neck
It’s been months and months of abuse to his body
Elaborating further on how the injury occurred, Owens revealed how brutal encounters with Sami Zayn and Cody Rhodes had taken their toll.
“I had doubts for several months that there was something really abnormal. On the other hand, it took several months before diagnosing the injury as such. But we knew two days before I made the announcement on SmackDown, that I would not be able to be at WrestleMania and that I had to stop wrestling immediately.
“In fact, I was extremely lucky not to be injured more seriously in the matches at Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber, because my neck was already in bad shape, but we didn’t know. Because the symptoms that I had were not compatible with a neck injury.
“So, we were looking for why I had these symptoms, but we weren’t looking in the right place because it didn’t make sense. No one would have known that it was my neck that was affected because of those symptoms. Later, someone – actually, I was the one who suggested that I have my neck checked to see if there was anything, and that’s when it was found.”
Kevin Owens’ Devastating Admission About Neck Injury
Sadly, no one knows when or if he will return
KO, at this point in time, doesn’t have an estimated date for a return, and has refused to commit to promising that he will indeed return at all.
“It would be, not arrogant, but false, to be able to tell you right now that I will absolutely return to the ring, that I will have other fights. I don’t know if that’s true.”

Owens, 41, has dedicated most of his life to pro wrestling. The Canadian made his in-ring debut at the age of 16 before cutting his teeth in the respected Ring of Honor promotion. Since signing with WWE in 2014, Owens has won numerous titles, including one world title reign. Among his biggest achievements are twice headlining Night 1 of WrestleMania by winning the undisputed tag team titles with best friend Sami Zayn, and welcoming Stone Cold Steve Austin out of a 19-year retirement.
Being sidelined indefinitely is uncomfortable for a performer who has dedicated most of his life to his passion. Thankfully, he is getting the problem addressed, so he can enjoy his life outside the ring as best as possible.
