Karim Benzema made waves on social media this Tuesday after scoring an incredible golazo during Real Madrid’s training session on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles, California. The Frenchman plucked a high ball out of the sky before lifting it over his opponent and then finishing ruthlessly clinically.
Benzema, absolutely key to Madrid’s ludicrously successful 2021/22 season that saw them win both La Liga and the Champions League, missed their opening pre-season friendly of the new campaign, a 1-0 defeat to Barcelona in Las Vegas.
But it’s expected he could be back this evening, when Carlo Ancelotti’s troops take on Mexican side Club America. They close out their pre-season campaign on Saturday evening, when they face Juventus, before returning to Europe to lock horns with Europa League-winners Eintracht Frankfurt in the European Super Cup. They kick off their defence of their La Liga title against newly-promoted Andalusian outfit Almeria on August 14th.
There are people who start every season wondering whether Benzema can keep up his incredible record, and then he goes and does things like this in pre-season. pic.twitter.com/W8cnlVOw20
