Karim Adeyemi set a new Bundesliga record on Saturday afternoon as Borussia Dortmund beat Freiburg 5-1 to place Die Schwarzgelben back in the title race. The 21-year-old reached a top speed of 22.77mph (36.65 km/h), becoming the fastest player in the Bundesliga since records began in 2011/12.
Surprisingly, former Mainz defender Jeremiah St. Juste, now at Sporting CP, is second after reaching a top speed of 22.76mph (36.63 km/h) whilst the top three is rounded off with Bayer Leverkusen’s French attacker Moussa Diaby, who was the fastest player this season after being clocked at 22.69mph (36.52 km/h), until Adeyemi set a new record.
Also in the top 10 is Alphonso Davies (22.69mph), Achraf Hakimi (22.67mph), Leon Bailey (22.62mph), Sheraldo Becker (22.61mph), Kevin Schade (22.6mph), Erling Haaland (22.56mph) and Nathan Ngoumou (22.47mph).
Adeyemi has enjoyed an excellent start to 2023. The Germany international scored his first Bundesliga goal for Borussia Dortmund against Bayer Leverkusen last weekend, and added another on Saturday in BVB’s 5-1 win, putting his side level with Bayern Munich.
