After watching his Germany side rout Slovakia to secure their spot at next year’s World Cup, head coach Julian Nagelsmann provided an update on the fitness of recovering stars Kai Havertz (Arsenal) and Jamal Musiala (FC Bayern).
After months on the sidelines, both players are nearing a comeback.
“Kai had a minor relapse, but overall he’s doing well,” Nagelsmann said.
“Jamal no longer has any major problems. But like Kai, he first needs to get back into rhythm with his club.”
The coach added that he expects both players to return to action “towards the end of the year.”
“They have until March to get fully fit, but they obviously need to stabilize now.”
Nagelsmann also expressed optimism about the recoveries of Real Madrid’s Antonio Rüdiger and FC Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen, but noted that external factors make it impossible to determine exactly who will make the World Cup squad at this stage.
“Of course, we have an ideal squad in mind, but there are so many factors we can’t control,” he stressed.
“I can’t just say that Kai and Jamal will play main roles for us and then have them not be available. That’s happened over nearly a year with several players.”
