Juventus freeze contract renewals till the FIFA World Cup

Serie A side Juventus have frozen contract renewals for players till after the FIFA World Cup.

Fabiana della Valle has reported about the Bianconeri’s ritiro, claiming that the Juve squad arrived at the Turin airport late afternoon yesterday. But despite the poor results, Max Allegri wanted to be honest with the squad and instead of heading straight for a strict ritiro at J Hotel, the manager gave players some time to meet their families and return to the Continassa this morning.

While it was a surprising decision, Allegri made the decision because he wants the team to be united and optimistic. Andrea Agnelli has already informed the management team that they have full autonomy over decisions and the manager considered it to be appropriate for players to meet their families before the ritiro.

Agnelli was in the club locker room after the defeat to Maccabi Haifa and some have stated that they have never seen him as angry as he was. During his speech in the locker room, Agnelli made it clear that performances of every Juve player are being scrutinised and no one is being given any contract renewals till after the FIFA World Cup. And renewals will be made on the basis of performances only.

Agnelli will also be willing to make drastic changes to the squad, if things don’t go in Juve’s way. If a certain player doesn’t perform, he will be at a genuine risk of being removed from the squad – even if it means financial losses.
