‘Jury out’ over £150k-a-week star at London Stadium

West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta is a ‘huge talent’ but the ‘jury’s out’ over whether he will prove to be a success at the London Stadium, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The Hammers spent more than £160million during the summer transfer window, with a large chunk of that outlay being used to acquire the creative midfielder.

What’s the latest news involving Paqueta?

West Ham shattered their record transfer fee when they parted with £51million in order to tempt Paqueta away from French giants Lyon during the final days of the summer window.

Following the big-money deal, Moyes admitted the 25-year-old is a star he has ‘admired from afar for a very long time’.

Paqueta penned a £150,000-per-week contract which will keep him in east London until the summer of 2027 and he has already made an impact in his new surroundings.

The talisman registered assists in victories over Anderlecht and Fulham earlier this month, but he is still waiting to find the back of the net for the first time in claret and blue.

Paqueta, a 35-cap Brazil international, has set his sights on booking a place on his homeland’s flight to Qatar for the World Cup.

What has Paul Brown said about Paqueta?

Brown still has doubts over whether Paqueta will reach his full potential while on West Ham’s books despite already showing glimpses of what he has to offer.

The journalist believes the South American will take a prolonged period of time to fully adapt to the rigours of English football.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: “I think the jury’s out on whether that signing is going to be a success.

“I think it could be and he obviously has huge talent, but it’s whether he can make it count in the Premier League for that team, so we’ll have to see.”

How has Paqueta performed so far this season?

It seems there is plenty for West Ham fans to be excited about as, during the early stages of the campaign, Paqueta has averaged more shots per 90 minutes and boasts a better pass completion rate than Manchester City attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

That is no mean feat, particularly considering the Belgian is already into double figures for goal contributions this season and won the Premier League four times.

Since his arrival, Paqueta has also been West Ham’s third best performer in the top flight, so it is clear that he has a bright future ahead of him at the London Stadium.
