Former Liverpool head coach Jürgen Klopp has spoken out on the departure of Xabi Alonso from La Liga giants Real Madrid.
This of course comes fresh off the separation between club and manager being made official on Monday.
After Real Madrid were condemned to defeat in the finale of the Spanish Super Cup at the hands of arch rivals Barcelona, it was decided ‘mutually’ that Los Blancos and Alonso could no longer continue down the same path.
The Spaniard, in turn, was replaced on the touchline at the Bernabéu by fellow countryman Álvaro Arbeloa.
This is viewed by most, however, as only a stopgap solution, as Florentino Pérez and co. wait for a more high-profile name to become available on the market.
One such tactician linked with the headmaster’s job in Spain’s capital comes in the form of the aforementioned Jürgen Klopp.
Speaking during an appearance in front of the media this week, it therefore came as little surprise when both the Real Madrid manager’s post, and Alonso’s exit, were put to the German himself.
And Klopp, during an interview with “Sport und Talk aus dem Hangar-7” on ServusTV, as cited by Spox, opened his response by explaining:
“That has absolutely nothing to do with me and hasn’t triggered anything in me.”
The former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund boss, who currently acts as Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull, continued:
“The coaching market is being shaken up, and it’s not so bad to experience it all from an observer’s perspective and not think about what it might mean for yourself, because you’re in the right place where you are.”
Turning focus towards Alonso, Klopp concluded:
“It is a sign that not everything is 100 per cent right (at Real Madrid). [Alonso is] an outstanding coaching talent. I really feel sorry for him, because I think he’s a great coach.”
