Jude Bellingham to be offered a contract extension with a €150m release clause

Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund wants to extend Jude Bellingham’s contract by a year and include a release clause said to be worth €150m.

Dortmund plans to invite Bellingham, his father and his advisor over the Easter period to discuss his future. The plan is to offer Bellingham a one-year extension which will make him their highest-paid player ever on €15m a year, while also adding a release clause that will be set at €150m. 

This could benefit both sides as Dortmund can have a year to find a potential replacement for the 19-year-old. It will also give Bellingham to the opportunity to develop a further year in a familiar environment. However, a move in the summer is still likely as clubs such as Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester City will continue to try and persuade Bellingham to move.

Bellingham’s current contract expires in 2025 and while he also currently earns around €6 million a year.

The 19-year-old has taken a step up this season on the pitch and off it. On the pitch, he is having his best season yet at Dortmund with 10 goals and six assists. Off the pitch, Bellingham has become the third captain for Dortmund behind Marco Reus and Mats Hummels. The midfielder has captained Dortmund four times this season most notably in the Champions League round of 16 first leg against Chelsea.
