During Borussia Dortmund’s defeat against Villarreal on Friday, Jude Bellingham was awarded the captain’s armband after Marco Reus was substituted and Mats Hummels wasn’t on the pitch.
After the game, according to Kicker, head coach Edin Terzić revealed the Bellingham (19) has been appointed as BVB’s third captain behind Reus and Hummels.
The England international has three-years remaining on his current BVB deal but has already showcased his leadership skills following his €25m move from Birmingham City in 2020. Bellingham has played 90 games across all competitions in Black and Yellow, scored 10 and creating 18.
Speaking earlier this year about his decision to join Borussia Dortmund, Bellingham said: “As a kid, I never dreamed of playing in Germany, I always thought I’d play in England for Birmingham and that would be me but the chance to play for Borussia Dortmund came and I didn’t really hesitate. Not one second have I regretted it or thought ‘this is too hard for me.’ I want to embrace the challenge.”
