John Terry Responds After Fan Says He ‘Isn’t Qualified’ For Chelsea Job

Chelsea have been on the lookout for a new manager over the past few days after Enzo Maresca left his position. The Italian manager did a commendable job at the club after being appointed in the summer of 2024, ending his first campaign with two trophies.

However, he left his role halfway through his second campaign at the club after a quick breakdown in his working relationship with senior figures at the club.

Chelsea have appeared to move quickly to replace the Italian, with Strasbourg’s Liam Rosenior jetting into London to hold talks over becoming the club’s new manager.

One high profile name who has been overlooked for the job — but who will still undoubtedly have ambitions of managing Chelsea in the future — is John Terry.

The 45-year-old has made it no secret that he wants to manage in the future, but he is yet to take his first step into management. As he waits for his opportunity, Terry is currently Chelsea’s academy coach, a role he has held since July 2023.

Despite his lack of experience, some Chelsea fans have been pushing Terry’s name forward and wanting him to lead the club following Maresca’s departure.

Not every Chelsea fan holds that opinion, though, with one supporter saying on social media that he doesn’t have the qualifications required.

Terry saw the comment and his response has gone viral. He replied: “I have every qualification going, I have three years coaching experience in the Premier League with Aston Villa.

“On top of that nobody is more Chelsea than me, for us to be top again we need a top manager as yes that would rule me out but please don’t say I’m under qualified!”

Terry gave his thoughts on Maresca leaving Chelsea shortly after his departure was confirmed. Speaking on TikTok, he said: “I know things of late haven’t been how he would like. You can see and hear that there’s been tension.

“I’ve had so many phone calls this morning after the news and everyone expects me to know what’s happening. I haven’t got a clue what’s happening, I’m not involved in the first team so I don’t know.

“Just my opinion from afar, there’s clearly been tension between the manager and the owner and they’ve come to this decision.

“It’s a big shock because rewind three or four weeks ago and we were playing so well against Barcelona. It was so good and fast forward four weeks and form and performances clearly haven’t been good enough.

“I think like the squad, the manager is inexperienced himself. It was his first full-time job in the top-flight and he has said how he’s still learning and how he’s got some things wrong at times.

“But I will say there’s always two sides to the story and there’s certainly things behind the scenes that I don’t know about. I just hear rumblings like everyone else does.

“I’m disappointed but there’s still loads to play for this season, Champions League, Carabao Cup, so whoever comes in has a lot to play for. As players you have to get on with it and step up and deal with it.”

Rosenior could well be in the dugout for Chelsea’s match against west London rivals Fulham on Wednesday January 7.
