As reported by David Ornstein, Manchester City defender João Cancelo will join Bayern Munich on loan for the remainder of the season.
The 28-year-old is expected in Munich today where he will complete his medical and officially sign for the club. The Portuguese international may not be available for Bayern’s game in the DFB Pokal against Mainz 05 on Wednesday but should be up for selection against VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga this Sunday.
Cancelo has seen limited minutes under Pep Guardiola this season and for that reason has been allowed to leave. The deal is also expected to include an option-to-buy clause.
It’s a great bit of business from Bayern which has come out of nowhere. Benjamin Pavard has struggled of late and with an injury to Noussair Mazraoui, Cancelo’s signing makes perfect sense. The defender brings with him a winning mentality and vast amounts of experience.
