Kader Meïté (17) picked up the top prize in the inaugural edition of the ‘Golden Kid’ awards, held in Paris on Saturday.
Stade Rennais’ Meïté had a breakthrough campaign, making 12 first-team appearances, scoring twice. In total, 18 players were nominated across six categories. The young French players were selected by a jury, consisting of three scouts from professional clubs abroad, as well as a former player, a journalist who specialises in youth football, and an influencer.
Meïté beat the likes of Paris Saint-Germain’s Ibrahim Mbaye and RC Lens’ Kyllian Antonio. RB Salzburg’s Joane Gadou (18) won the ‘Golden Kid Foreign Professional’, notably beating Chelsea’s Mathis Amougou. Axel Tape, who is set to leave formative club PSG in the coming weeks, won the U19 category, whilst AS Monaco’s Ilies Belmokhtar won the U17 award.
Olympique Lyonnais’ Adil Hamdani won the future U17 award and PSG’s David Boly won the future U19 award.
