According to L’Équipe, Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta (27) has been released from the hospital following a reckless challenge that saw him sustain an ear injury in the Premier League club’s FA Cup clash against local rivals Millwall.
The 27-year-old required respiratory assistance as he was stretchered from the field at Selhurst Park as the Millwall stopper saw red. The Frenchman required surgery for the injury on his left ear due to the severity of the wound that the challenge created. Surgery saw Mateta receive 25 stitches to close the wound.
Out of action
After seeing his ear lacerated following the contact with Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts, the Palace head coach Oliver Glasner has warned that Mateta will be unavailable for the South London club’s next Premier League match against Ipswich on the 8th March and could be set for an even longer spell on the sidelines.
