VfL Bochum officially introduced fullback/winger Saidy Janko as a new 2022/23 squad player on Monday evening.
The deal to bring Swiss journeyman Saidy Janko to his ninth professional footballing club (and seventh country) turned out to be a one-year-loan deal with a purchase option. VfL Bochum officially introduced the 26-year-old right-fullback/winger on Monday evening. Janko joins the Bundesliga on loan from Spanish Segunda side Real Valladolid.
“Saidy Janko will liven up the competition on our [right] flank,” Bochum managing Sebastian Schindzielorz noted on the club’s website, “He is in his prime, possesses speed as well as athleticism and, due to his extensive CV, is familiar with the demands of football at the highest level. His international background will certainly be helpful in integrating him into the team.”
Janko himself spoke of a great “curiosity about the Bundesliga” and vowed to do everything he could to help the club succeed in its objectives. The “extensive CV” Schindzielorz refers to includes stops at FC Zurich, Manchester United, Bolton Wanderers, FC Barnsley, Nottingham Forest, Celtic Glasgow, AS St. Etienne, BSC Young Boys, and Valladolid.
