Despite speculation over his future at the club, Liverpool ace Harvey Elliott is expected to remain at Anfield for the foreseeable future, The Athletic journalist James Pearce has revealed.
The Englishman was a prominent member of the first-team squad last season, making 53 appearances in all competitions, though he has managed just a third of that number this term. New boss Arne Slot has favoured other midfielders over Elliott, which has thrown his future under the spotlight.
However, an emphatic match-winning goal in the high-stakes Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain has proven that Elliott still has a role to offer in an already-talented Liverpool squad.
Pearce: Liverpool Hold ‘No Intention of Selling’ Elliott
The player is eager to stay and compete for minutes
Via The Athletic, Pearce gave an update on Elliott’s future, suggesting the player will stay at Liverpool, despite rumours of an exit. He wrote:
“His place in the pecking order has led to inevitable speculation about his future this summer but Liverpool have no intention of selling and he has given no indication he intends to abandon his mission to become a first-team regular.”
Elliott has often missed out on a look-in into the first-team purely due to the number of talented players vying for a starting position. The likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch all play integral midfield roles for Slot, while Mohamed Salah has already cemented his place in Elliot’s other position at right-wing.

As such, the 21-year-old has yet to start a single Premier League game this season, and has been limited to just 18 appearances in all competitions.
The lack of minutes has understandably frustrated Elliott and Borussia Dortmund were among the clubs reportedly interested in his signature in the winter transfer window, meaning he would have appealing destinations were he to leave Merseyside.
However, the youngster has not yet backed down from a battle for minutes. After scoring in the 87th minute against PSG to secure a vital win in the Champions League Round of 16, Elliott explained his intention to fight for his place:
“I need to use that anger and frustration and turn it into motivation.”
“I always want to play Champions League football. It’s not about everyone being able to see I’m frustrated, it’s about being there for the team. Although I only played five minutes against PSG, I had the mentality of wanting to help the team as much as possible.”
