Following a stunning knockout at the hands of Anthony Joshua, Jake Paul won’t be returning to the ring as quickly as he would have hoped.
Jake Paul was stopped in the sixth round of his contest with former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in Miami, Florida last month. The Brit caught the YouTuber-turned-boxer with a stiff right hand which left him in shock on the canvas.
Following the fight, Paul was taken to hospital where he was confirmed to have suffered a double fraction of the jaw. The injury required multiple plates to be fitted to his jaw to help repair the damage caused by his much bigger opponent. However, the beating he suffered at the hands of a high-class, active boxer didn’t deter the American influencer, who still has aspirations of winning a boxing title, as he sat in his hospital bed and called out the legendary Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
The 68-fight veteran is a modern-day boxing legend, and is still a scary opponent for most, despite his defeat to Terence Crawford in September last year. But it seems the Mexican will not be a viable option for Jake Paul, certainly not anytime soon.
Jake Paul’s Boxing Career Stalled For Now
On Sunday, the Florida Athletic Commission confirmed that Jake Paul would be hit with an indefinite suspension following the injuries he sustained against AJ. This will scupper any hope he has for a quick return to the ring.
Following the Miami event, the Florida Athletic Commission handed out a number of suspensions to those who suffered injury. Former MMA fighter Tyron Woodley, who suffered back-to-back defeats to The Problem Child in 2021, returned to the ring to face another UFC legend in Anderson Silva.
The UFC Hall of Famer dropped Woodley with a combination that defied his age. The 50-year-old faked a kick in an unorthodox boxing move, but it worked a charm as it opened up a chance for a stiff uppercut to drop former UFC welterweight champion, Woodley, and leave him with a 0-3 record in boxing.
Other Suspensions From Paul vs Joshua Card
Tyron Woodley himself now faces a 30-day suspension, alongside Camilla Panatta, who lost to WBC lightweight champion Caroline Dubois, and Yokasta Valle, who retained her WBC strawweight title against Yadira Bustillos, but suffered enough damage to warrant a suspension.
Justin Cardona, who was knocked out in the first round of his welterweight clash with Avious Griffin, was given a 60-day suspension from the Florida Athletic Commission, while Diarra Davis Jr received an indefinite ban after losing to Keno Marley.
Following his crushing defeat to Anthony Joshua, Jake Paul has also lost his ranking with the WBA. He rose up to 14h in the cruiserweight rankings following his victory over former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in July, but this defeat has left him out of the top 15.
