Urs Fischer has reacted to Union Berlin’s 3-2 defeat to Braga in the Champions League, saying the fact that his team squandered the lead is symptomatic of the situation they’re in at the moment.

“What else can I say?”

Leading 2-0 after 37 minutes, Union Berlin were on course for their first ever Champions League win against Braga last night, but Urs Fischer’s men couldn’t hold on to the lead and eventually lost 3-2 after conceding a third goal in injury time.

Speaking after the defeat – Union’s sixth in a row in all competitions – Fischer was understandably disappointed, saying the loss was symptomatic of his side’s current form.

“Until we were 2-0 up we did very well. Braga had some phases of pressure but they weren’t dangerous. Then we conceded from set-pieces either side of half time, and of course to lose 3-2 is bitter,” Fischer was quoted as saying by UEFA.com.

“It fits with the situation that we’re in at the moment. We have to score a third goal. When you have three chances like that you must score, and we didn’t. At this level you get punished for that.

“Of course the supporters were great, but it’s about getting points. We’ll have to look now to the challenges that are up ahead.”

Fischer and Union will get their next chance to end their losing streak when they face Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
