Inter Milan star Nicolò Barella has provided an insight into why he feels his side were able to make such short work of Napoli this evening.
The Nerazzurri, of course, were back in action a short time ago.
In the headline fixture of the Serie A weekend, Simone Inzaghi’s troops made the trip to Naples, for a highly-anticipated showdown with the aforementioned Napoli.
Inter headed into proceedings in the knowledge that a win was needed, to climb two points clear of table-topping Juventus once more.
And, when all was said and done, clinch all three points is precisely what the evening’s visitors managed.
Not only that, but they did so in supreme style.
Owing to goals on the part of all of Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Nicolò Barella, and Marcus Thuram, Napoli were condemned to a deserved 3-0 defeat.
Of a host of star performers on the night for Inter, Barella shone brighter than perhaps any other, bagging an assist alongside his first goal of the campaign.
Speaking to DAZN ( via TMW) post-match, the all-action midfielder was therefore drawn on just how Inter managed to make such short work of the reigning Italian champions.
And Barella was quick to highlight Napoli’s ‘openness’ as key, in stark contrast to a Juventus side who battled to a draw with the Nerazzurri last time out:
“There is a very long way to go, we saw all too well how moments can change a season. Juventus are the toughest team to play against, as they close up the spaces and defend well. Napoli were more open and we took advantage of that.”
