At the weekend, Inter picked up a closely-fought 2-1 win over Fiorentina in the Serie A and it came in dramatic circumstances. The Nerazzurri grabbed two goals in stoppage time, completing yet another comeback in a campaign that has been full of them. Teenager Matteo Lavelli made an impact in his first appearance of the season, coming off the bench and buzz around him has grown.
La Gazzetta dello Sport take a closer look at the 19-year-old, who made his debut back in January, when he came on for Marcus Thuram. He combined with the Frenchman to help Inter win a penalty against Fiorentina and this display of courage from Chivu has already found praise.
A striker by trade, Lavelli is nicknamed ‘El Pocho’ because of the similarity in surnames between him and Ezequiel Lavezzi.
The youngster spent the pre-season along with the first-team on Chivu’s command, with the Romanian having also seen him from up close during his spell with the Inter Primavera side. The newspaper note that this was part of the club’s plans for Lavelli, who is expected to be on the bench for Inter in their game against Venezia today.
The Nerazzurri also ensured that he wasn’t loaned out or sold in the summer. Lautaro Martinez’s absence has only helped him come closer to the first-team and there is every chance more opportunities can come, as the season rolls on.
