According to a report from The Athletic, contract negotiations between Ibrahima Konaté (26) and Liverpool are yet to see a breakthrough. The French international defender is currently free to discuss a potential pre-contract agreement with clubs outside of the Premier League, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
The Premier League champions have made it no secret that they would like to keep the 26-year-old at Anfield. However, despite three contract proposals to date, the former RB Leipzig defender is yet to agree to a deal that would keep him on Merseyside. Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a move for the Frenchman.
Liverpool targeting a summer centre-back signing amid Konaté’s uncertain future
With Konaté’s future uncertain, The Athletic understands that the Reds are focused on signing a new centre back during the summer transfer window. Virgil Van Dijk’s and Joe Gomez’s contracts are also set to expire in the summer of 2027.
