Kylian Mbappé’s message about South American football may have motivated Argentina before the World Cup final on Sunday.
“South American teams have disadvantages because they don’t have the same level of competition as European teams. Argentina and Brazil don’t play matches at a high level to get to the World Cup. Football is not as advanced as it is in Europe. That’s what you saw in recent World Cups,” the Frenchman said in quotes picked up by AS earlier this year.
Lionel Scaloni’s team beat Didier Deschamps’ side on penalties after a gripping encounter that saw La Albiceleste win their first World Cup since 1986.
Mbappé scored against Argentina at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. In the 4-3 win for Les Bleus in Kazan, he scored a brace, which sent Argentina and Lionel Messi home.
The PSG forward scored a hat-trick on Sunday but it was not enough as France were unable to retain the Jules Rimet trophy.
