kicker reports that Hoffenheim are looking for attacking reinforcements and Mainz’s Jonathan Burkardt is of interest to the club.
Since the sales of Christoph Baumgartner and Georginio Rutter over the past couple of seasons, Hoffenheim has struggled when it comes to players who carry the ball forward and are proficient at dribbling. Only Anton Stach and Andrej Kramaric are the only players in the squad with a good dribbling percentage.
To counter this, Hoffenheim are beginning to look at players who could fill this gap. Mainz’s Burkardt is one of the targets as he possesses the qualities that Hoffenheim are looking for. The striker could also be seen as a replacement for Maximilian Beier as the 21-year-old has been linked to bigger Bundesliga clubs recently.
However, Burkardt recently extended his contract at Mainz, so a move would only be possible if Mainz are relegated. The 05ers currently find themselves in the relegation playoff place, six points from safety.
The 23-year-old recently returned from an injury that heavily hampered last season but upon his return to the starting 11, he has four goals in 13 games.
