TSG 1899 Hoffenheim issued a statement early Saturday afternoon announcing that lead-striker Wout Weghorst may have suffered a structural muscle injury.

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim’s second home win of the season last night came at a cost. Lead striker Wout Weghorst had to be subbed off in the 65th minute after suffering an apparent thigh injury on an attacking breakaway. The Dutchman’s club issued a statement Saturday afternoon announcing that Weghorst was scheduled for further examinations on Monday. Hoffenheim confirmed that they feared the 31-year-old had suffered a “structural injury”.
In any event, it does appear as if the former Wolfsburg star will unfortunately have to press the pause button on what was a fine run-of-form. Weghorst had scored in four of his last five league fixtures entering last night. He was able to record an assist in last night’s 3-1 victory. The 29-times-capped international has scored 63 Bundesliga goals in five seasons spent playing for Wolfsburg and the TSG.
