Hoffenheim are interested in signing 23-year-old central-defender Dan-Axel Zagadou, according to Kicker.
The Frenchman is available on a free transfer after his contract with Borussia Dortmund was allowed to expire.
Both Zagadou and BVB reached an agreement as to not extend their cooperation beyond the summer.
The central-defensive position is an area that Hoffenheim want to strengthen in the summer transfer window with both Manchester City defender Ko Itakura and former Wolfsburg defender John Brooks also linked with the Bundesliga side.
Itakura (25) spent last season on loan at Schalke and helped achieve a return to the Bundesliga whilst Brooks (29) is also available on a free transfer after his contract with Wolfsburg expired.
Zagadou played just 949 minutes of Bundesliga football last season for Borussia Dortmund under Marco Rose but struggled with injuries.
Hoffenheim last week announced the appointment of André Breitenreiter as head coach.
