After Frankfurt’s Europa League triumph this summer, Martin Hinteregger shockingly retired from football at the age of 29. The center-back has been playing for his home team and amateur club SGA Sirnitz, but will now become the president of Austrian third division side SC Wiener Viktoria.
The club is determined to become a serious professional team and believe they can grow with Hinteregger’s help. The Austrian was convinced to take the position by a supporter of Wiener Viktoria, comedian Christopher Seiler.

Hinteregger stated that, “I didn’t think this would move so fast. After calling Seiler, I knew that something special could arise here. I am super happy that I can participate.”

Toni Polster, the Austrian national team’s all-time leading goalscorer, coaches the club as well. It looks like Hinteregger will continue playing at home for Sirnitz, as he begins this new venture.
