Hincapie, Calafiori, Mosquera – Latest Arsenal injury news and return dates after Liverpool draw

Mikel Arteta was handed a new injury concern during Arsenal’s Premier League clash against Liverpool

Arsenal suffered a fresh injury blow during their goalless Premier League draw with Liverpool on Thursday. The Gunners headed into the clash knowing a win would take them nine points clear at the top after Manchester City failed to beat Brighton 24 hours earlier.

Declan Rice, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli forced Alisson into saves while Conor Bradley struck the bar in a game of limited opportunities. While it was two points dropped, potentially the biggest blow was losing Piero Hincapie to what looked like a muscle injury.

Myles Lewis-Skelly came on as his replacement with the Gunners academy graduate handed some rare minutes in the league having become the third-choice left-back. Riccardo Calafiori is Arteta’s undisputed starter for that role but he and fellow defender Cristhian Mosquera are currently out injured.

Kai Havertz was also absent from the matchday squad against Liverpool despite having recovered a knee injury while Max Dowman is another attacker unavailable. With that being said, football.london has rounded up the latest updates on Arsenal’s injured stars and when they could potentially return.

Piero Hincapie

Hincapie was forced off 57 minutes into the clash against Liverpool with what looked to be an injury to his right leg. Arteta was not asked about the Ecuador international after the game, though he was captured moving gingerly on the pitch at full-time.

Potential return date: N/A

Riccardo Calafiori

Calafiori has missed Arsenal’s last four games with a calf injury, though he is expected to return soon.

What Arteta said: “I think pretty soon they have to go to the last stage of the rehab, I think everything goes well, hopefully very soon they will be available for selection.”

Potential return date: Manchester United (H) – Feb 17.

Cristhian Mosquera

Mosquera has not played for Arsenal since the 2-0 victory over Brentford back in early December. However, he is also set for return very soon.

What Arteta said: “I think pretty soon they have to go to the last stage of the rehab, I think everything goes well, hopefully very soon they will be available for selection.”

Potential return date: Manchester United (H) – Feb 17.

Kai Havertz

Havertz has recovered from a knee injury that kept him out for months, but he is yet to feature since the opening day win over Manchester United.

That decision is down to managing his load with the German forward not quite match fit. The 26-year-old was again missing from the squad that faced Liverpool on Thursday, despite Arteta’s positive update earlier in the week.

What Arteta said: “We are monitoring, obviously his load he has been out for a long time for two different reasons and he’s very close.

“He trained this [Wednesday] morning again and hopefully we’re going to have him available and the best version of Kai Havertz.”

Potential return date: Portsmouth (A) – Feb 11.

Max Dowman

Dowman is still missing after suffering an issue in a behind-closed-doors friendly when playing for Arsenal U21s.

What Arteta said: “Max picked up an injury last weekend and had to come off. So he did some scans, and he is going to be out for weeks.”

Potential return date: Late January.
