Hellas Verona closing in on Gabriele Cioffi to replace Igor Tudor

Igor Tudor’s stint at Hellas Verona ended one year after joining the club to replace Ivan Juric, with the club now looking at Gabriele Cioffi as a potential replacement.

As reported by La Gazetta dello Sport, Gabriele Cioffi, who completed the 2021/22 season as the manager of Udinese in the top flight of Italian football, is the favourite to replace Tudor, who was confirmed to have parted ways with Hellas Verona mutually on Saturday morning.

In the official statement from Verona, Tudor was quoted as saying,

“Difficult decision, because in Verona I found a work environment and a group of fantastic players and men who allowed me to express myself at my best and create a profitable harmony with the Club, thanks to which we have achieved extraordinary results.

“I thought about it for a long time, comparing myself with the President, whose frankness and transparency I appreciated in explaining the programs for next season, but we both agreed that there were not all the conditions that would have been needed to continue a path together. In light of this, it was right to separate us. An affectionate greeting to the city of Verona, where I had a great time, a hug to the fans who sent me affection and warmth and a big good luck to Hellas Verona for a future full of satisfaction.”

Under the stewardship of Tudor, Hellas Verona finished ninth in Serie A with 14 wins, 11 draws, and 13 defeats in the 2021/22 campaign.

Cioffi started the season as an assistant manager under Luca Gotti at Udinese. After Gotti had gotten the sack in December 2021, the Udine-based club chose Cioffi as his rightful successor.

The Florence-born gaffer then led Udinese to a 12th-placed finish in the league. His time at Udine oversaw significant improvements in several areas of the pitch. And his style of play was similar to that of the Gialloblu with three at the back and wing-backs proving the width down the flanks.

Last week, Udinese Calcio announced that Gabriele Cioffi had left the club, stating that he was unwilling to renew the contract expiring on 30 June 2022.
