“He never seems to get tired!”

Twenty-three-year-old Austrian international Junior Adamu now has two scorer’s braces to his credit in the young 2024/25 German footballing cycle. Having already bagged a brace in Freiburg’s opening round Pokal victory, the 2023/24 total transfer flop now helped his club SC Freiburg achieve their second major home league win of the campaign.

Freiburg were trailing visiting VfL Bochum 1-2 until Adamu scored a pair of goals between the 58th and 61st minute. The seven-times-capped international’s vital pair of tallies mirrored the contribution of Stuttgart’s Ermedin Demirovic in a concurrent kickoff. Adamu’s rise under a new trainer who began believing in him in training camp obviously makes for a different story. 

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Junior has been fit and in peak condition since day one of pre-season training,” SCF coach Julian Schuster noted at the post-match presser, “He is very hardworking and seems to never get tired.”

“He works incredibly hard defensively, but he also made good deliveries with the ball today,” Shuster continued, “He has remained patient and is fully focused. That’s important for the runs and for making the right decisions in the box. He has rewarded himself and the team accordingly.”

Adamu did make 22 competitive appearances under previous trainer Christian Streich last year, but managed only one goal and one assist in the Europa League. Thus far this season, he’s contributed four goals and one assist in four appearances across all competitions.
