Havertz calls for more support from German fans

Kai Havertz has criticized German fans for not getting behind the national team.

Arsenal star Kai Havertz has called on fans to get behind the German national team.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Havertz commented on Germany’s embarrassing exit from last year’s World Cup in Qatar, saying that he would have liked more support from the German people during the tournament.

“Everyone must have noticed, even in retrospect, that we didn’t have that much support in the country. Of course there were other reasons, but from a footballing point of view there was hardly any support. We were really on our own – although I’m not including everyone. When you saw what the other nations had in terms of fans and support, I think it was a bit lacking for us,” Havertz said.

In general, the German national team have been going through a rough patch, and Havertz is calling on the fans to get behind the team to give them the best possible chances of getting back to the top.

“As they say, the fans are the twelfth man and they support you even in bad times. We didn’t always feel that one hundred percent. We’re trying to create some euphoria again and get the fans on our side. The only way to do that is to win. But we also need the backing and the support in bad times to get out of those bad times.

“We have received a lot of criticism in recent months, and often, in my opinion, not justified. We’ve handled it well as a team and that’s something that brings us together.
