Speaking to media ahead of Germany’s UEFA Nations League game against England tonight, Hansi Flick discussed his expectations, Jamal Musiala and the importance of the last competitive fixture before the 2022 World Cup.
“It’s important to win because that gives the team confidence and a positive feeling. However, games like the one against Hungary are also part it,” said Flick.
“We can’t lose confidence in the team, which we aren’t. I have full confidence in the team. The players also have other things in their minds from their clubs, and a packed schedule with the Champions League. I’m also convinced that the players will get an additional push when the final World Cup squad is announced.”
Flick wants his side more confident and to enjoy playing against England: “In my opinion, what was missing from the first half against Hungary was the confidence,” added the 57-year-old.
“That left us with the feeling that everyone was a little hesitant. We want to field a team that knows what to do and enjoys playing football. Those are the things I want to see tomorrow.”
Musiala (19) will start against England. The Bayern Munich player was awarded his Bundesliga debut under Flick, who has praised the generational talent.
“Jamal will play tomorrow. I don’t think that will come as a surprise to him. It will be a great moment for him to get to play at Wembley. He’s able to help us play our way out of trouble, reads the game well and is able to win the ball in defence. I’m happy that he plays for Germany.”
