Halstenberg speaks on future, defends Tedesco

In an interview with Kicker, defender Marcel Halstenberg discussed his future aspirations and stance on coach Domenico Tedesco.

Speaking with Kicker, Leipzig’s Marcel Halstenberg shared his thoughts on a variety of topics surrounding his career. Even with his club’s poor start to the season, the 30-year-old defender still believes Domenico Tedesco is the right man in charge:
“You shouldn’t always question everything just because we had a few initial difficulties. And we all find the coach discussion very exaggerated anyway. As a team, we stick to the playing style that the coach has chosen. We want to have the ball, dominate the opponent and thus play out goal chances.”

Leipzig face Shakhtar Donetsk Tuesday to begin their Champions League campaign, but Halstenberg is excited to face one team in particular: “Playing against the champions is certainly something special. That was also one of my wishes because I have never played against Real.”

Halstenberg’s Leipzig contract expires in 2024 and he has stated his wish to end his career at the club. The former Hannover youth player would also like to make a return back home once his playing days are over.

The World Cup hopeful stated that, “I feel incredibly comfortable in Leipzig, but I will then go back to Hanover…this is my home, my family and friends. And I can well imagine doing something outside of football.”
