Peter Gulacsi is set to make his first start for RB Leipzig in almost a year when Marco Rose’s side take on Wiesbaden in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old Hungary international will finally make his comeback after working his way back from a cruciate ligament rupture.

“We have a lot of confidence in Pete and his quality as a player. He’s looking forward to his comeback after almost a year on the sidelines. It’s an important moment considering the severity of the injury and his age. It’s also important for the team spirit,” said RB Leipzig coach Marco Rose at the pre-match press conference.

But even if Gulacsi starts tomorrow, Janis Blaswich remains the first-choice goalkeeper for the time being.

“It’s all about taking baby steps as far as his integration back into the team is concerned. There’s nothing more to it than that,” Rose said, adding:

“The number one spot isn’t up for discussion at the moment. The guys know where they’re at. We’ve got a lot of quality in that position.”
