For the first time since suffering a cruciate ligament rupture in October, Peter Gulacsi will be in the RB Leipzig squad when the ‘Red Bulls’ take on Augsburg on Saturday.
This was confirmed by Leipzig coach Marco Rose at his pre-match press conference.
“Tomorrow, Saturday, we will have Pete back in the squad for the first time. He’s had four weeks of good team training,” said Rose.
“It gives us a good feeling to have our vice-captain back,” added the coach, who will be without two of his key players in the coming weeks after Willi Orban and Dani Olmo picked up injuries during the international break.
“This is a really good thing for us as a team, apart from the not-so-good news. So we are taking a very positive approach, even if we have one or two absences.”
Even though Gulacsi is back in the squad, Janis Blaswich will continue in goal for the time being.
“Of course, [Gulacsi] still has some work to do. Janis is so reliable and strong and has given us so much in the last few months that we don’t need to discuss when Pete will come back. Instead, Janis is in goal.
“We will build Pete up. Sometimes situations arise on their own. But even then, it doesn’t mean that Janis won’t be back in goal. Janis has a lot of confidence. We’re happy to have Pete back and have good competition at the position in the long run.”
