VfB Stuttgart are optimistic that Serhou Guirassy will be back in the squad for Sunday’s Bundesliga clash with Mainz.
“We hope he is well rested and well prepared,” said VfB Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth after Tuesday’s 3-2 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal.
The Guinean star striker missed the match due to a stomach bug and fatigue after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.
“We sat down with the doctors,” Wohlgemuth said of Guirassy’s absence against Leverkusen.
“There are still 14 games to go, so we managed the risk and decided that he should stay in Stuttgart.”
