Bayer Leverkusen have been left sweating over the fitness of Alex Grimaldo ahead of their Bundesliga clash with VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday.
As reported by Kicker, Grimaldo was left out of Spain’s squad for their 2-2 draw against Turkey on Tuesday due to muscular problems that required an examination at his national team’s training camp.
The severity of the injury remains unclear, but Leverkusen will hope to have their key left-back available for a demanding run of fixtures.
Following the international break, Die Werkself face Wolfsburg, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund (twice) over the course of just 11 days.
Grimaldo has scored seven goals and provided four assists in 15 matches for Bayer 04 this season.
